A regular meeting of the Carrington School District #49 Board of Education was held on November 10, 2020, at 4:00 P.M. in the high school Library.  Present:  Angela Kutz, Tonia Erickson, Randy Hooey, and Joel Lemer.  Absent: Kevin Wolsky.  Kimary Edland recorded the minutes.

It was moved by Kutz, seconded by Hooey and carried (all voting yes on a voice vote) to approve the minutes from October 13, 2020.  Kevin Wolsky arrived at 4:03 P.M.

Financial reports for the Activity Fund, Special Reserve, Building, Special Assessment, Capital Projects, General, and Hot Lunch Funds were reviewed.  It was moved by Wolsky, seconded by Kutz and carried (all voting yes on a voice vote) to accept the reports as presented.

It was moved by Kutz, seconded by Erickson and carried (all voting yes on a voice vote) to approve the check registers and payment of bills.

Mrs. Helseth reported on elementary activities including 94% attendance on virtual parent teacher conferences; Student Council distributing popcorn during American Education Week; November professional development day on the book “The Orange Frog”; the JV One Act performance for the 5th & 6th graders; the Elementary Christmas Concert being recorded or live streamed; flag etiquette & Veterans Day presentation by the Legion Auxiliary; 5th Grade Health Nutrition Exercise;  Cardinal Way Award to the 2nd & 4thgrade WIN Groups;  the Lions Vision Screening; Minecraft Coding training for 5 teachers; PowerSchool Users Group training; teacher evaluations; and she presented mask data and updates on the 7:35 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. supervision.

Mr. Roach reported on parent teacher conferences; fall and winter athletics and activities; InterQuest K-9; 8th grade and student council fundraisers; NWEA testing; Team Building Day for the November 25th professional development day; NDCEL Fall Conference; substitutes; and teacher evaluations.

Mr. Kuehn reported that a few students who had initially chosen distance learning are now doing face to face learning; that he virtually attended the NDCEL Conference and Law Seminar; that he is working on the principals, technology director and business manager’s evaluations; that a three door refrigerator has been purchased; that the bus drivers completed a week of logging miles & riders; that the Carrington School received a Resiliency Funding Grant and Corps Funding grant; presented a thank you card from Claudia Park; reported that enrollment on November 10, 2020 is 522 and that he and Kim participated in a NDPHIT Meeting with Randy Johnson.

Lunch Committee:  The meeting is scheduled for 5:00 P.M. on December 9, 2020
Technology Committee:  The meeting is rescheduled for 5:00 P.M. on November 18, 2020
Calendar Committee:  Mr. Kuehn will set a date to meet with the committee members
Facility Committee:  A meeting is scheduled for November 17, 2020 at 7:00 A.M.
Transportation Committee:  A meeting is scheduled for November 23, 2020 at 8:30 A.M.

Joel Lemer and Randy Hooey reported on the Virtual NDSBA Conference

It was moved by Kutz, seconded by Hooey and carried (all members voting yes on voice vote) to approve an open enrollment request for a student from Fessenden Bowdon to attend Carrington School beginning the 2021/22 school year.

It was moved by Kutz, seconded by Erickson and carried (all members voting yes on voice vote) to approve a no tuition agreement, without transportation,  for two students from New Rockford Sheyenne School District to attend Carrington School District.

It was moved by Wolsky, seconded by Erickson and carried (all members voting yes on voice vote) to approve the superintendent evaluation, with no concerns, as presented by Joel Lemer and to authorize that it be placed in his file.

Mr. Kuehn presented a bid from Advanced Business Methods for a new copy machine lease.  By consensus the Board directed Mr. Kuehn to seek out another bid.

The next regular meeting of the Board of Education will be December 8, 2020 at 4:00 p.m.
