October 9, 2018

A regular meeting of the Carrington School District #49 Board of Education was held on October 9, 2018, at 7:00 P.M. in the high school ITV room.  Present:  Tonia Erickson, Angela Kutz, Joel Lemer, Scott Fetch and Kevin Wolsky.  Absent: none.  Kimary Edland recorded the minutes.  

President Fetch called the meeting to order and declared a quorum present. 

It was moved by Kutz, seconded by Wolsky and carried (all voting yes on voice vote) to approve the minutes from September 11, 2018.

Financial reports for the Activity Fund, Building, Special Assessment, Capital Projects, General, Hot Lunch Funds and elementary project were reviewed.  It was moved by Lemer, seconded by Wolsky and carried (all voting yes on voice vote) to accept the reports as presented.

Bills and the September check registers were presented.  It was moved by Wolsky, seconded by Erickson and carried (all voting yes on voice vote) to approve the check registers and payment of bills.

Mrs. Helseth presented elementary updates on the TEAM and backpack programs; NWEA testing & 4th grade state science assessment; 5th grade visit to the one room schoolhouse; fire prevention week activities; ALICE intruder drill; digital citizenship curriculum update; parent-teacher conferences and new Kindergarten report card; Title I family involvement night; Gearing up for Kindergarten; and she reported on the October 17th early out activities, MTSS Year 2 meeting with Wayne Calendar, and the NDCEL Conference.

Mr. Nowatzki presented high school updates on academics including  ASVAB testing for Juniors, ALICE lockdown drill, PSAT exam, Job Fair and College Application Event, and the ND State Assessment; student leadership including FBLA fall Leadership Conference, FFA District Leadership Conference and National Convention, SOS Week, student council activities on homecoming week, National Custodian Day and selling World’s Finest Chocolate; professional activities including obtaining his Class B CDL license, that he is serving as a mentor in the ND Council of Educational Leaders Principal Mentoring & Coaching Program, updated on activities for the October 17th staff development, and reported that he is attending the NDCEL fall conference; and reported on upcoming events including the fall concert, parent teacher conferences, NHS Halloween food drive, FFA pancake & sausage supper/labor auction and the One Act Drama & Dessert.

Dr. Duchscherer presented information on the School Board Convention and Law Seminar; updated on the NDASA Legislative Focus Group; presented a certified employee list for the Carrington School District, a School District Brochure, state academic and CTE scholarship information, ACT test results, a DPI Strategic Vision Framework, and an updated Carrington School District Strategic Plan; reported that the District is still looking for a JH wrestling coach and a head girl’s golf coach; and reported that he will be attending the NDCEL Conference, a Focus Group Meeting and that he is the new Kiwanis president.

Facility Committee:  Joel Lemer reported on the committee meeting from October 8, 2018. 

Technology Committee:  The committee scheduled a meeting for November 7, 2018 at 5:00 P.M.

Lunch Committee:  The committee scheduled a meeting for October 30, 2018 at 5:00 P.M.

Mr. Fetch directed the Board to have their superintendent evaluation completed by November 2, 2018

It was moved by Kutz, seconded by Erickson and carried (all voting yes on voice vote) to approve YHR Partner’s proposal of $15,000.00 plus reimbursable expenses to manage the demolition of the old elemtanry school building.

The next regular meeting of the Board of Education will be Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 4:00 p.m.
