INTRODUCTION:

You are a doctor at a local hospital. The hospital wants better communication with the community about understanding medical procedures. You are assigned a specific topic. Your topic is orthopedics and you need to prepare a seminar about knees.

 

 

You will need to design a power point slide show that is 10-20 slides long about knees. You will use this slide show to present at the seminar. You will need to put the requirements on your slide show as follows (No specific order and you may use other information you find.):

Pictures/diagrams of the knee

Types of knee injuries (Symptoms/Causes)

Treatments for knee injuries

Explain the procedure for knee surgery

You will also need to gather enough factual information to put in your one page report. You will hand this report into your supervisors. Also, you will need to answer the following questions and put them in your report:

What is arthroscopic surgery?

How can people prevent knee problems?

What are the major structures of the knee?

How common are knee problems?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

PROCESS:

1. You may choose a partner for the activity.

2. Brainstorm what you know about knee orthopedics. Look for the basic and structural units that need to be included in you slide show. Remember, you will be showing this to the community. Try to keep it a little simple!

3. Now use the Internet to gather and find information about knee orthopedics. Make a 10-20 slide show for the seminar. Make sure to have all the requirements for the slide show. Your slide show and presentation must be given the 'thumbs up' by your supervisors before you show it to the community.

4. Make a report at least one page long about factual information and your experiences making the slide show. Remember to answer the previous questions and include them in your report. Hand the report into your supervisors so they can critique it.

 5. Keep in mind, that you are making this presentation for the 'community' so they can get a better understanding of knee surgery.

When you finish this assignment, you will have a better understanding for orthopedics in general. You will understand surgeries and medical procedures for knee orthopedics. Also, you will know treatments for knee injuries and ways to prevent them. You will have enough knowledge to help other people understand their knee problems and ways they can fix them.
